Eagle eyed landladies bravely confronted the murderer when he was attempting to conceal the body of his last victim in a barrel of pickled herring and raised the hue and cry.

Who were the Resurrectionists? Well, that story involves a lot of names, and a low of shadowy streets, but one of the most prolific was that of Doctor Mungo Dalrymple (1790-1829), who spent his years buying cadavers from body snatchers to be used by his medical students. His downfall followed the unveiling of one of his suppliers, who was caught red-handed concealing his latest acquisition for the Doctor.
